The northern site extent is host to managed grassland whilst the southern site extent is host to regrowth rainforest inclusive of a waterway. The site is located in the south- western extent of the Black Mountain area. The site is zoned as Rural Residential within the Noosa Plan 2020. Plate 2 depicts the site’s position in the landscape and the extent of existing development. Plate 2 – Site Context (Source: Nearmap 2021) 2.2 Topography The slope of the land is a major determinant of fire behaviour, particularly the slope of the land under vegetation that contributes to bushfire hazard. Fire burns faster as it travels up slope, via preheating of unburnt fuels ahead of the fire, increasing the rate of spread and fireline intensity. Conversely, fires move more slowly as they travel downslope. Fireline intensity (kW/m) is a function of the rate of spread (QFES 2019). The site is located on the eastern side of the Black Mountain Range ridgeline resulting in slopes between 5-20 degrees on a mixed east aspect. The site reaches a topographic high of approximately 200m AHD about the western boundary and declines to a topographic low of 145m AHD about the eastern boundary. A watercourse was observed flowing west to east through the regrowth rainforest in the south and another was observed entering the north-eastern corner of the site. The watercourses meet about the north-eastern corner of the site and exit the site into the easterly adjacent lot. Plate 3 depicts topography conditions within and adjacent to the site. © 2022 5
