Environmental Aspects

The environmental aspects on this project include:

▪ Air Quality
▪ Noise and Vibration Control
▪ Water Quality
▪ Erosion & Sediment Control
▪ Waste
▪ Flora and Fauna
▪ Acid Sulphate Soils
▪ Cultural Heritage
▪ Pest Control
▪ Fire Ants

All environmental aspects are inspected and monitored throughout the project by the project management team,
and as part of the WHSE Advisor’s weekly inspections. A Project Daily Environmental Conditions Form IMS-05-
30 is used to record the weather conditions throughout the project

Air Quality

Shadforth aim to prevent and minimize the impact on the quality of air due to construction activities associated
with this project. Shadforth construction processes have the potential to affect air quality caused by dust,
emission from machines, and odours from chemicals.

Air quality is managed in accordance with the air quality criteria under the Environmental Protection (Air) Policy
2008. Control measures to manage dust, fumes, and odours on this project are outlined in Table 6.

Table 6 – Air Quality Control Measures

               Hazard Control Measures
                                   ▪ Site water to suppress the dust.
                                   ▪ Avoid dust generating activities such as haulage during dry and windy
      Dust conditions.
                                   ▪ Engineering controls to stabilise exposed areas. For example,
                                     polymers, geofabric, mulch, seeding, revegetation.

                                   ▪ Machines are maintained and serviced regularly.
      Fumes - Plant and
                                   ▪ Usage of modern fleet.
      Equipment Fumes
                                   ▪ Shut down machines when not in use.

                                   ▪ Appropriate usage and storage of paints, solvents and chemicals.
Odours - Paints, ▪ Refuelling of machines away from nearby residents.
      Solvents and
Chemicals ▪ Storage of chemical in bunded areas
                                   ▪ Spill kits available during refuelling activities

Dust monitoring is complaint driven. In the event of a dust complaint the project management team apply the
following procedure

▪ Investigate the complaint through consultation with the complainant and client.
