GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 25 AUGUST 2014
It may be appropriate to exclude the area of land currently used for the Teewah airstrip from
the listing. Officers were to give consideration to this property; and
It may be appropriate to include the properties located at the northern and southern ends of
the Teewah Beach village as part of the National Heritage Listing. Officers were to
investigate any reasons why these properties should be excluded from the listing.
Councillors also requested clarification as to the extent of land for the Noosa North Shore Beach
Campground and community infrastructure recommended for exclusion from the National
Heritage Listing. The Committee further indicated that some residents on the Noosa North Shore
may wish to have their property included as part of the National Heritage Listing and it may be
appropriate for Council to indicate their support.
Teewah Airstrip
The proposed Cooloola National Heritage Place currently includes the whole of Lot 7 MCH 4562
within the proposed National Heritage Listing. The Teewah Airstrip is located on this land. While
the area surrounding the airstrip contains vegetation worthy of environmental protection, a
significant area of the site is mowed and is currently used by the Noosa Model Flyers Inc. and the
Sunshine Coast Sports Aviators Inc. and for emergency landing purposes. Excluding the
landing strips and ancillary areas used by the clubs from the National Heritage Listing would
recognise the existing low scale recreational use of the site and the environmental significance of
the remainder of the site.
Attachment 1 identifies that part of Lot 7 MCH 4562 that is proposed to be excluded from the
National Heritage listing.
.

Lot 79 SP 217586 State Land - unallocated
Lot 78 SP 215048 State Land – Reserve for Refuse Disposal with Council as trustee

Lot 25 T9242 State Land – Reserve for Coastal Management with Council as trustee
Lots 1 to 24 T9243 State Land - unallocated
Attachment 2 identifies these properties.
These properties are currently not used for any particular purpose, are zoned Open Space
Conservation by The Noosa Plan and are identified by the Biodiversity Overlay as containing
vegetation worthy of environmental protection. This current zoning and overlay significantly limits
the development potential of these properties.
