GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 25 AUGUST 2014
For the state land with nominated reserve purposes, it is preferred that this land continue to be
excluded from the proposed National Heritage Listing, as this land may be required for use in the
future for community purposes, notwithstanding the current planning scheme designations. For
example should the Teewah community seek Council to provide a waste service for the village in
the future, part of Lot 78 SP215048 may be suitable for a small transfer station.
For the state land (Lot 80 SP 217587, Lot 79 SP 217586 and Lots 1 to 24 T9243) generally
located at the northern and southern most ends of Teewah village given this land is unallocated
state land, is undeveloped and adjoins National Park, it would be desirable to include this land in
the National Heritage listing. This land is unlikely to be also required for community purposes in
the future as Teewah Beach is a small remote village. The lands inclusion would also be in the
interest of conservation and would recognise its natural and scenic values.
Noosa North Shore Beach Campground
The Noosa North Shore Beach Campground is located on Lot 32 MCH 4399 and is a Recreation
and Camping Reserve with Council as trustee. Over some years Council has engaged in a land
swap process with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS). Primarily, there were two
purposes of the land swap. The first of these was to consolidate each organisation’s land parcels
as there were a number of scattered adjacent land parcels owned by each organisation.
Secondly, the land swap process, which is still ongoing, is essential to facilitate a number of
favourable outcomes including improving the beach campground facilities and a range of
community infrastructure.
On 31 March 2006 Council resolved to request that part of Lot 1010 NPW686 located east of the
Wilderness Track future road reserve be amalgamated with the existing Recreation and Camping
Reserve located on Lot 32 MCH4399 and that the balance of Lot 1010 NPW686 west of the
proposed Wilderness Track be transferred to National Park to enable Council to proceed with
more detailed planning of expansion of recreation camping reserve and associated community
infrastructure.
In the intervening eight years Council has had discussions with QPWS and have identified
possible additional land for future development of the Noosa North Shore Beach Camping
Grounds.
In light of recent discussions with QPWS it is important that the National Heritage Listing does
not impact on the future planning for the Noosa North Shore Beach Camping Grounds and other
community infrastructure. Two options have been put forward in this regard:
Option 1:
This option restates Council’s previously endorsed position emanating from the 31 March 2006
Council decision. Council resolved to request that part of Lot 1010 NPW686 located east of the
Wilderness Track future road reserve be amalgamated with the existing Recreation and Camping
Reserve located on Lot 32 MCH4399 and that the balance of Lot 1010 NPW686 west of the
proposed Wilderness Track be transferred to National Park to enable Council to proceed with
more detailed planning of expansion of recreation camping reserve and associated community
infrastructure.
