GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 25 AUGUST 2014
The Club is aware that Council is looking at the site for a possible RV Stopover although initial
discussions have been based around the small area to the rear of the site which is approx. 2,700
m2 (refer Figure C below).
Figure B – Permit to occupy area Figure C – Possible layout initial area
If the space was well managed and supervised, drivers would need to enter the site in a forward
direction and reverse into an undefined space it could accommodate possibly up to 15 smaller
vehicles allowing a 9m frontage as shown in Figure C. The Club is generally supportive of this
concept with some concerns around users accessing their water supply.
However, this small area provides limited capacity and drivers are unlikely to be as well-
disciplined in where vehicles are parked. For the trial to be successful it is suggested that access
is required to other parts of the open space area within the car club’s permit to occupy. The area
is unused for most of the time and includes the training field built for the rugby league club that is
no longer required due to construction of the additional field off Sportsground Parade.
Because of manoeuvring area required for “big rigs” (upwards of 12.5m in length) and potential
for damage to the ground surface from large rigs, it is recommended that big rigs not be
permitted to use the site.
Community Development Branch advice is that planning work undertaken by Sunshine Coast
Council indicates that there is adequate sports reserve land in Cooroy to service the localities of
Cooroy and surrounding areas to 2026 with demand alleviated by the construction of the
additional rugby league field at Cooroy.
If the land is to be used for other purposes, they would prefer the whole site be reviewed to
determine the best use and if necessary acquire other land suitable for sports & recreation
purposes in order to keep options open for the future. If there is to be a mix of uses, they have
concern about safety of junior users with large vehicles and car/float movements occurring
simultaneously.
It is recommended that the RV Stopover area to be located within the open space area under
permit to occupy to the Combined Coastal Car Club and negotiations continue with the Club
having regard to matters such as:
Requirements for their events;
Pony club event parking;
