8.2 Landfill
Capacity
The Eumundi-Noosa road landfill site commenced operation in 1986. The initial cells were not
lined, however subsequent cells since 2007 (cells 2.1, 2.2 etc) have all been lined. As of 30 June
2014 the landfill life is expected to be 55 years. A new cell has been commissioned to open in
2016.
An estimate of landfill development stage life has also been calculated based on air-space
availability using an approximate annual waste acceptance rate of 49,000m3 and a waste density
of 0.68t/m3 (taking into account also the quantity of soils used in daily cover). (ATC Williams,
Landform Development Plan, 2014).
