3.17 Manual tasks
In order to minimise the risk of musculoskeletal injuries subcontractors will be required to ensure:
        Provision and proper maintenance of:
                Lifting equipment (e.g. pallet jacks, vehicle loading cranes, trolleys, duct lifters, etc.);
                Where required, on-site storage racks for sheet materials (e.g. glass, plasterboard, etc.); and
                Fit-for-purpose gloves when handling materials that are likely to cause injury.
        Supplier’s instructions for lifting and manual handling of material and equipment are followed;
        Manual handling of materials is minimised between levels (particularly deliveries) by utilising cranes, tile and brick
        elevators, etc., where provided;
        Materials and equipment are stored and stacked to facilitate easy access and handling;
        Workers use team-lifting methods when mechanical lifting equipment is not practical to use, and are trained in correct lifting
        techniques; and
        Work procedures and SWMSs are reviewed if instructed to do so by the Principal Contractor.

3.18 Hazardous chemicals
The Principal Contractor will:
        Retain a hazardous chemicals register for all chemicals used at the work site; and
        Maintain a central file of Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) (previously known as Material Safety Data Sheets or MSDSs) for all
        hazardous chemicals used at the work site.
Subcontractors using or storing hazardous chemicals at the work site will be required to ensure:
        Copies of safety data sheets (SDSs) are provided to the Principal Contractor before they are used or stored on site;
        SDSs are current (i.e. written or revised within the past five years);
        SDSs are readily available to any worker intending to use the hazardous chemical (for example, kept in the work vehicle);
        Workers are trained in the use of each hazardous chemical and the safety precautions included in the relevant SDS;
        Any PPE, emergency/first aid supplies and specialised equipment, as specified in the SDS or chemical
        manufacturer’s/supplier’s instructions, are provided and readily accessible at the work site;
        Hazardous chemicals are correctly labelled and any other containers used to decant or hold the chemicals are also correctly
        labelled;
        Appropriate spill kits, bunds and fire extinguishers are made available, if required, where the chemicals are being used and
        stored;
        Hazardous chemicals are stored properly in the subcontractors designated area of the work site to minimise the risk of fire,
        explosion and contamination;
        Large quantities of hazardous chemicals are not stored at the work site;
        Permission is obtained from the Principal Contractor beforehand if larger quantities of hazardous chemicals need to be
        stored on site and the quantities are likely to exceed the placard quantities specified in Schedule 11 of the Work Health and
        Safety Regulation 2011;
        Manifest quantities of hazardous chemicals as per Schedule 11 will not be permitted on site; and
        Signs, placards and labels applicable to the chemicals being stored or used at the work site, are installed as required.
