2. Reduction of marine use
While the existing pontoon may have occasional day time use, it is not viable as an overnight berth
due to security and exposure reasons. Boats that are moored here for more than a day or so are
subject to ransacking theft, despite security camera's and extra lighting. Boats are also subjected to a
continuous barrage of wash from passing boats as the speed limit is excessive for this area, and thus
causes damage.
The Marina currently provides a public mooring area, which is located on the river front adjacent to the
Pier 11 restaurant Jetty. Up to 3 boats are able to moor here at any one time. This is also the most
convenient place to moor for those skippers that do not have the experience of navigating inside a
marina thus preventing any possible collisions with moored boats. The marina does also have many
locals that moor inside the marina in vacant berths with prior arrangement.
Given the limited use of the existing pontoon the new deck will not have a practical impact on the
marine function of Noosa Marina.
3. Access to Jetty beach area
It is acknowledged that the beach area between the Marina and the public jetty to the north is used by
the public. The proposed deck will reduce the available use of this area, however only to the extent of
the lease area entitlements. As shown by the aerial photo with cadastral boundary overlay, included in
Attachment 1, approximately 50% of the beach area is included within the lease area. Access to the
beach is still available outside the lease area/proposed deck extension.
4. Ferry usage
It is also important that ferry usage is not overlooked. Approximately 78 to 80 thousand visitors use
the ferry service annually. The ferry operates 6 return trips per day, with 2 boats servicing Sundays and
school holidays increasing to 13 return trips per day. Operating times are typically from 9:15am to
6pm, increasing in holiday periods to 8:30am to 10pm. There are 6 stops from Noosa Marina to
Hastings Street, being the Yacht club, Pelican boat hire, OBoat hire, T Boats, Quamby Place and
Hastings Street. Many locals along with visitors use the service both as a relaxed tour and as a means
of transport, between Noosa Heads and Noosaville to Noosa Marina.

Yours faithfully
