GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 12 MARCH 2018
The Holiday Park is listed on the State Government’s Queensland Heritage Register due to its
contribution to the pattern and evolution of Queensland's tourism history and it is important to the
community and visitors that the Holiday Park is retained for future generations with the land
holding not degraded over time.
It is important to recognise QBFP and the Holiday Park have existed harmoniously together at
the site for many years and this needs to continue. Council encourages the Department of
Housing and Public Works to submit an application for the boat shed as opposed to pursuing a
retrospective Community Infrastructure Designation. The Designation is unlikely to procure a
satisfactory outcome for residents, risks public relations damage to the Department, circumvents
the Noosa Plan, encumbers the Holiday Park through unnecessary land tenure instruments and
enlivens referral triggers under the Planning Regulation 2017 should Council seek to develop the
Holiday Park.
The new boat shed visually dominates the site and has not been designed to preserve the visual
amenity of neighbouring properties or the Noosa River. Existing vegetation has also not been
preserved to buffer the building and help protect the natural character and visual amenity of the
area.
It is recommended that Council write to Department of Public Housing and Works requesting an
application be lodged for assessment under the Noosa Plan and that the boat shed either be
redesigned or modified to comply with the Noosa Plan provisions. It is also recommended that
Council write to the State Member for Noosa seeking support for advancing discussions with the
State Government.
