RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Co-ordinator Design and Traffic to the Infrastructure &
Services Committee Meeting dated 28 April 2015 detailing the progress on the development of
the “Noosa – Design Principles” document.
REPORT
The purpose of this report is to give a progress update on the development of the “Noosa –
Design Principles” document.
1. Background
With the formation of the new Noosa Council, it is important that the values and ideals that have
been held for the last 30 years which have contributed to the Noosa we know today are
protected.
The risk that needs to be addressed is raising awareness in the community of what it is that has
contributed to a point of difference for Noosa, that sets it apart from other seaside resorts.
Over the last 30 years, a way of designing has developed which was based on principles aimed
at the protection of the environment and a village feel at its heart. Whilst some of the principles
have been referred to in many separate documents and others held in the minds of designers as
beliefs and ideals, these principles have never really been documented in one place.
The Noosa – Design Principles project aims to document these principles in a simple and
evocative way so that everyone can share responsibility for the protection of the quality of life that
has become the Noosa style.
