Budget Commentary
The budget to end of March indicates revenue is above estimates and expenditure is slightly
below estimates. The Waste budget is in a sound position at March 2015.
Capital Works Projects
Three Capital Works Projects were included in 2014/15. The project to Gravity Feed stormwater
from Cell 2.2 (instead of pumping stormwater from the cell), did not proceed. Due to the ongoing
management of stormwater in cell 2.2 the date for commencing to fill the cell with waste has
been moved forward to approximately December 2015. This will make use of the first quadrant
of the cell and remove the requirement to manage the accumulation of stormwater from that part
of the cell. The requirement to pump stormwater from the remainder of the cell will gradually
reduce, as the remaining 3 quadrants are filled with waste. Pumping stormwater from the cell is
the only available option.
The High Efficiency Sedimentation (HES) Basin upgrade and Bio Basin construction at Eumundi
Road landfill is expected to reach completion during April. The upgraded green waste pad is
complete and has been handed back to Council. The remainder of the Bio Basin and HES Basin
upgrades are also nearing completion. There were no major problems during construction
although some leachate management issues had to be resolved following the major weather
event associated with Tropical Cyclone Marcia. The budget for these two projects is on track
with estimates, both projects should be delivered within allocated budgets.
