Site Based Management Plan

3.0 Site Based Management Strategies
3.1 Stormwater, Erosion and Sediment Control
      To provide a set of leading practice site management procedures to:
      -   control drainage; and
      - minimise the severity and extent of soil erosion and pollutant transport occurring as a result of land disturbance
          necessary for extraction to receiving waters.
      Extraction activities on-site have the potential for impact on overland flow water quality (e.g. elevated suspended
      solids, turbidity and chemical spills). These activities include:
      -    vegetation clearing;
      -    topsoil stripping;
      -    quarry pit development;
      -    stockpiling of topsoil and product;
      - spillage during handling of materials; and
      - use of hydrocarbons and other chemicals.
      Potential water discharges from Site operations include:
      -   controlled discharge of stormwater after collection within the quarry pit sump(s) and/or sediment basin(s)/traps;
      -   overtopping of on-site sediment trap(s)/quarry pit(s);
      - overland flow from disturbed areas including product processing and hardstand storage areas; and
      - overland flows from handling areas of hydrocarbons and other chemicals.

3.1.1        Operational Policy
      To carry out operations on-site so as to prevent, as far as practicable, changes to the hydrological regime,
      contamination of stormwater, on-site soil erosion and release of contaminated water off-site.

3.1.2        Performance Targets
      Adequate drainage and sediment control measures are implemented to manage and treat runoff from disturbed areas
      on-site.
      The potential for on-site erosion is minimised.
      Clean stormwater is segregated from disturbed areas, where practicable.
      Water released from disturbed areas on-site does not impact on aquatic ecosystems, water quality or flows
      downstream of the quarry operations.
      Stormwater leaving the Site during and post extraction operations is of no lesser quality than that which exited the Site
      pre-development.
      Water released from operational areas to comply with the nominated Release Water Quality Objectives listed in Table
      9 – Release Water Quality Objectives or as prescribed by the Development Approval.

                   Parameter                Release Criteria                                       Type
                   Turbidity 50 NTU or equal to or less than 10% above background Upper Limit
                                            if greater than 50 NTU
                   Suspended Solids 6 mg/L or equal to or less than 10% above background Upper Limit
                                            if greater than 6 mg/L.
                   pH                       6.5 – 8.0                                              Range
