West Ridge Quarry
Site Based Management Plan

      -      gravelling of long-term unsealed roads;
      -      constructing hardstand areas using compacted base coarse with a cover of gravel mulch;
      - preventing and where not possible to prevent, minimise the contact of incident rainfall and stormwater runoff with
             wastes or other contaminants;
      -      cleaning up any spillage of wastes, contaminants or other materials as quickly as practicable;
      - directing all surface water runoff from the areas utilised for the operation and product stockpiles to the quarry pit
             or sediment trap and allow to seep or evaporate away, or re-use to irrigate rehabilitated areas or adjacent
             grassed buffer area(s) on-site;
      - recycling water collected in the excavated sediment trap(s) or quarry pit(s) to the maximum extent practical (e.g.
             dust suppression and watering rehabilitated areas);
      - undertaking any necessary on-site maintenance in an area where contaminants cannot be released to
             surrounding receiving waterways or on-site sediment basin(s) or excavated settling traps;
      - storing all hazardous materials, chemicals and food product wastes generated on-site under cover or with
             appropriate safeguards;
      - undertaking rehabilitation of disturbed areas and final batters progressively to the extent practicable; and
      - disposing of wastes off-site on a regular basis.

Erosion Control Measures
Reasonable and practicable erosion control measures will be implemented on-site to limit soil erosion including stabilising
and vegetating road embankments and batters, temporary overburden and topsoil stockpiles and diversion banks or
perimeter bunds. Table 11 – Erosion Control Measures below provides soil stabilisation techniques that may be applied
on-site.

                                                    Table 11 – Erosion Control Measures

Technique                    Symbol      Type Use
Gravelling G Protecting non-vegetated soils from raindrop impact erosion.
                                             Stabilisation of hardstand areas including Site office area, processing areas, temporary
                                             car parks and access roads.
Light Mulching LM Control of raindrop impact erosion on flat and mild slopes.
                                             Control of water loss and assist seed germination on newly seeded soil.
Revegetation R Temporary and permanent stabilisation of soil.
                                             Stabilisation of long-term stockpiles.
                                             Includes turfing and temporary seeding.
Grass linings GL Permanent protection in low to medium velocity chutes and channels.
Rock Mattress RM Suitable for temporary and permanent high velocity chutes and spillways.
Rock lining RL High velocity drainage channels.
                                             Drainage chutes.
                                             Sediment basin spillways.

The quarry pit/sump and/or sediment basin(s) capacity will be assessed prior to quarry development to ensure a 1-in-5
year, 24 hour rainfall event can be contained.

Sheet Flow Sediment Control Measures
Reasonable and practicable sediment control measures will be implemented on-site to limit movement of sediment-laden
waters from the Site. Table 12 – Sheet Flow Sediment Control Measures provides sheet flow sediment control
techniques that may be applied on-site, if necessary.
