Ecological Assessment Report
Species Status* Likelihood of Justification
Occurrence in
proposed
disturbance
areas
(Green thighed frog) the proposed disturbance areas. May occur in
riparian areas associated with Six Mile Creek.
Adelotus brevis (Tusked V (NC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (rainforest streams) absent from
frog) the proposed disturbance areas. May occur in
riparian areas associated with Six Mile Creek.
Fish
Maccullochella peelii E (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (pools within relatively
mariensis undisturbed tributaries) absent from the proposed
(Mary River Cod) disturbance areas. Species known to occur in
around 20 km of Six Mile Creek where suitable
pools for permanent habitat are present.
Neoceratodus forsteri V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (permanent water bodies) absent
(Australian Lungfish) from the proposed disturbance areas.
Insects
Phyllodes imperialis E (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (undisturbed, subtropical
(Pink Underwing Moth) rainforest) absent from the proposed disturbance
areas.
Mammals
Chalinolobus dwyeri V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (sandstone cliffs and fertile
(Large-eared Pied Bat) V (NC Act) woodland valley habitat within close proximity of
each other, and rainforest and moist eucalypt
forest habitats on other rhyolite, trachyte and
basalt at high elevation) absent from the proposed
disturbance areas.
Dasyurus maculatus E (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (mature wet forest habitat) absent
maculatus (SE mainland from the proposed disturbance areas.
population) (Spot-tailed
Quoll)
Potorous tridactylus V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (variable, with access to some
tridactylus V (NC Act) form of dense vegetation for shelter) absent from
(Long-nosed Potoroo) the proposed disturbance areas. Not recorded in
NC Act database for 2 or 5km radius.
Pteropus poliocephalus V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (roost sites are typically located
(Grey-headed Flying Fox) near water, such as lakes/rivers/coast) mostly
absent from the proposed disturbance areas.
Species may forage at the disturbance areas but
prefers mature forests.
* Where CE is Critically Endangered, E is Endangered and V is Vulnerable.
4.4 Corridor Values
The area to the north of the site supports extensive tracts of remnant vegetation including Yurol State Forest.
This tract of vegetated land offers significant movement and corridor values to fauna. The surrounding areas
to the east, south and west are predominantly cleared with remaining vegetated areas mostly associated
with waterways. Six Mile Creek offers a relatively narrow band of riparian vegetation which provides linkage
between larger vegetated patches in the greater landscape.
The proposed disturbance areas themselves do not offer significant fauna movement opportunities as they
are located on the extremity of the existing quarry pit. Removal of this vegetation would not result in the
isolation or fragmentation of vegetated areas from each other. The proposed disturbance areas drain into
Six Mile Creek, and as such it will be necessary to adequately control potential impacts to this system
