2.4 Vegetation external of the 150m assessment buffer
The site flanks the eastern edge of a local north south aligned vegetated corridor. The corridor links
significant conservation areas surrounding the site including The Great Sandy National Park to the
north and Tewantin National Park and Noosa National Park to the south. Vegetation assemblages
include open forest and heathland communities, in addition to wetland areas flanking watercourses
and Lake Cooroibah to the west.
The site is exposed to a paperbark open forest fire run from the west in association with the
aforementioned vegetated corridor. Open forest fire runs are generally absent to the north, east and
south of the site with the surrounding vegetation, where present, described as scattered trees over
maintained understorey grasses. Risk of grassfire is present from the north, south and east and is
considered a function of grassland management frequency.
Plate 8 depicts the general extent of bushland habitat hence available forest fire zones surrounding
the site.
