Bushfire Hazard Assessment & Management Plan v2 - 30 Pottery St Pomona 2021
Bushfire Hazard Assessment & Management Plan v2 NCES REF: J000864 Lot 496 on MCH591 – 30 Pottery St, Pomona 2 Site Description 2.1 General The site covers 2.022ha and is flanked by Pottery Street along the eastern boundary. The majority of the site is characterised by native vegetation dominated by open forest species. One existing dwelling is present within the centre of the site near the northern boundary. The site is zoned as Detached Housing within the Noosa Plan 2006. Plate 2 depicts the site’s position in the landscape and the extent of existing development. Plate 2 – Site Context (Source: NC Interactive Maps) 2.2 Topography The slope of the land is a major determinant of fire behaviour, particularly the slope of the land under vegetation that contributes to bushfire hazard. Fire burns faster as it travels up slope, via preheating of unburnt fuels ahead of the fire, increasing the rate of spread and fireline intensity. Conversely, fires move more slowly as they travel downslope. Fireline intensity (kW/m) is a function of the rate of spread (QFES 2019). A low ridgeline traverses the northern site extent, with the majority of the site exhibiting a southerly aspect. The ridgeline reaches a topographic high of approximately 117m AHD in the north and a topographic low of approximately 110m AHD on the southern boundary. Slopes decline from the ridge in the north to the southern boundary at approximately 6.5 degrees. Plate 3 depicts topography conditions within and adjacent to the site. © 2021 5
