4. Lighting
Proper lighting management is essential for creating a safe and secure environment for patrons
and staff while ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding community. The following
lighting measures are designed to enhance safety, maintain compliance with regulatory
standards, and respect neighbouring properties.
a) Security and Safety Lighting
• Strategic Placement:
o Lighting will be strategically installed at key locations, including:
All entry and exit points to ensure visibility and enhance security.
Outdoor areas such as decks, terraces, and walkways to provide a safe
environment for patrons and staff.
Parking and service areas to reduce potential hazards and create a
secure space for patrons and staff after dark.
o These lights will be directed downward and shielded to reduce glare and prevent
light spillover to neighbouring properties, aligning with local council
requirements for minimizing light pollution.
• Compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Standards:
o All lighting installations will meet WHS standards, ensuring sufficient
illumination levels are maintained in high-traffic and critical safety areas.
o Emergency lighting will be provided along pathways, entry/exit points, and
stairwells, complying with fire safety and building code regulations.
b) Ambient Lighting for Outdoor Areas
• Low-Intensity Lighting:
o Ambient lighting will be used in outdoor areas such as the terrace and deck to
create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for patrons while maintaining
safety.
o Low-intensity, warm-colored lighting will be chosen to enhance the aesthetic
appeal without causing excessive brightness that could disturb nearby
residents.
o Timers and dimmers will be utilized to adjust lighting intensity based on the time
of day and patron activity levels, reducing unnecessary illumination during off-
peak hours.
• Directional and Shielded Lighting Fixtures:
o Directional lighting fixtures will be installed to focus light specifically on key
areas, such as dining tables and pathways, avoiding light spread to sensitive
locations like adjacent residential properties.
o All outdoor lights will be shielded to minimize horizontal light spill, ensuring
compliance with council regulations and protecting the visual amenity of
neighbouring properties.
