f) Minimizing Light Pollution
• Shielded and Downcast Lighting Techniques:
o All external lighting will utilize shielded fixtures to direct light downward,
focusing on areas that require illumination without causing sky glow or spillover
that could impact nearby residents.
o To further minimize light pollution, the hotel will use warm-colour LED lights that
reduce glare and create a softer visual effect, aligning with local council
requirements for environmentally sensitive lighting practices.
• Automatic Timers and Dimmers:
o Timers will be installed on all non-essential outdoor lighting fixtures to
automatically turn off lights after peak hours, reducing light exposure when the
venue is closed or has minimal activity.
o Dimmers will be used in outdoor dining areas to adjust lighting intensity based
on the time of day, gradually reducing brightness as the night progresses to
prevent disturbance to neighbouring properties.
g) Complaint Response and Adjustments
• Monitoring and Addressing Lighting Complaints:
o The hotel will establish a system for residents to report any lighting concerns
through a dedicated hotline or email. All complaints will be logged and reviewed
within 24 hours, with necessary adjustments made promptly to address
concerns.
o Staff will conduct weekly perimeter checks to ensure that lighting levels remain
within acceptable limits and that all fixtures are functioning as intended without
causing glare or spillover.
• Proactive Engagement with the Community:
o The hotel will engage with nearby residents and community associations to
provide information on lighting policies and to receive feedback on how lighting
impacts the neighborhood. Feedback sessions will be scheduled quarterly to
discuss potential improvements and maintain open communication with the
community.
This comprehensive lighting strategy ensures that all areas of the hotel are well-lit for safety and
security while minimizing light pollution and disturbance to the surrounding area. The lighting
plan aligns with RAMP requirements and regulatory standards, creating a safe, attractive, and
community-conscious environment.
