SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 MARCH 2017
The results of the trial indicate that there is some potential for misuse of the bin by the addition of
non-prescribed products.
The potential risks associated with incorrect use of the garden waste bin will be managed by a
comprehensive education program. Literature will be provided to residents during delivery of the
new bins and instructions on the use of the bin through stickers placed on the lid of the bin
detailing material that can be placed into the bin.
8. Consultation
External Consultation - Community & Stakeholder
The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection were contacted and have advised that
Council can determine what material is allowed in the garden waste and the method of
processing that waste, which is proposed to be by mulching with the garden waste.
Approximately 1,000 residents who participated in the trial were exposed to the proposed
potential addition of fruit and vegetable waste to the garden waste collection service during the
one month trial period.
Rolfe Perry and Associates Pty Ltd were the consultants engaged to implement and asses the
trial for Council.
Internal Consultation
Councillors were informed of the trial by email and received a copy of the circular letter sent to
