Review of the Noosa Council Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan 2016-2024
Action items in the Plan and waste diversion rates will be analysed and reviewed over the next
six months. A comprehensive report on progress will be provided to Council in the next six
monthly report.

Zero Emissions Noosa (ZEN)
Officers from the Waste Section have been included on the ZEN Project Control Group and
Operational Team. This is with a view to exploring methods to reduce carbon emissions from
waste management activities and in particular methane generation at the landfill. The recent
ZEN report on carbon emissions from Noosa Council activities identified the landfill as the largest
source of carbon emissions.

Finance & Risk

The Waste Coordinator has completed a review and update of the Waste Management Services’
Risk Management Program. This Program is reviewed and updated regularly.

Consultation
External Consultation - Community & Stakeholder
The recommendations of the first Noosa Community Jury have been used to formulate the
Council’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan and in particular the forthcoming introduction of
garden waste bins to urban areas of Noosa Shire.
