            4.0 METHOD OF INVESTIGATION
As part of our investigation, a desktop study was carried out comprising a review of the published geological
maps of the area, the NC landslide hazard (susceptibility) maps and historical aerial imagery. This was
followed by a site walkover and subsurface investigation.

4.1 Walkover Survey and Subsurface Investigation
Following the desktop study, a walkover survey was conducted to assess the ground conditions and to make
an appraisal of the general condition of the site.

The walkover survey was carried out by an engineering geologist on 29 July 2025.
The walkover survey included assessment of topography, drainage, vegetation cover, geology, erosion, and
slope stability. Results of the walkover survey are discussed in Section 5.0.
            4.2 Fieldwork
The investigation fieldwork was undertaken on 29 July 2025 comprising five test pits (designated TP1 to
TP5). Three test pits (TP1 to TP3) were excavated in the area of the proposed cabins. Test pits TP4 and
TP5 were located in areas initially considered for effluent disposal fields.
Test pits were excavated with a 4.5 tonne excavator, fitted with a 0.7 m toothed bucket to depths of up to 3
m below ground level (BGL). Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) tests were also carried out adjacent to the
test pits to assess soil strength.
The fieldwork was carried out in the presence of a geotechnical engineer from Core, who logged the
subsurface conditions in accordance with Australian Standard AS1726-2017 Geotechnical site
            investigations.
Test locations were recorded in the field using a handheld GPS unit. Investigation locations are shown on
            the attached Figure 1.
Reports of Test Pits are attached in Appendix A, together with explanatory notes. Subsurface conditions are
            discussed in Section 5.2.
