1.8 FIRE HYDRANT and FIRE SPRINKLER SERVICES

The fire hydrant and fire sprinkler services shall be sourced from on-site fire service storage tanks
with a respective total volume of 288,000 litres (hydrants) and 86,400 litres (sprinklers).

A new fire hydrant booster and fire sprinkler booster shall face parallel to the site frontage, and fire
service pumps shall facilitate the operation of the sprinkler and hydrant services to a compliant level.

The fire services shall be in accordance with the following Australian Standards :-

                 AS 1167          Welding and Brazing - Filler Metals
                 AS 1221          Fire Hose Reels
                 AS 1345          Identification of the Contents of Piping, Conduits and Ducts.
                 AS 1432          Copper Tubes for Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainage Applications.
                 AS 1530.4        Methods for Fire Tests on Building Materials, Components and
                                  Structures. Part 4 - Fire Resistance Tests of Elements of Building
                                  Construction
                 AS 1628          Water Supply - Copper Alloy Gate, Globe and Non-Return Valves.
                 AS 1851          Maintenance of Fire Protection Equipment. Part 1 - Portable Fire
                                  Extinguishers and Fire Blankets. Part 2 - Fire Hose Reels and, Part
                                  4 - Fire Hydrant Installations
                 AS 2129          Flanges for Pipes, Valves and Fittings
                 AS 2280          Ductile Iron Pressure Pipes and Fittings
                 AS 2419          Fire Hydrant Installations
                 AS 2441          Installation of Fire Hose Reels
                 AS 3688          Water Supply – Copper and Copper Alloy Body Compression and
                                  Capillary Fittings and Threaded-End Connectors.
                 BS 5163          Ductile flanged cast iron wedge gate valves for water works
                                  purposes.

Internal hydrant valves shall be sixty-five (65) mm diameter complete with all brass valves and shall
be fitted with a steel type handle.

All fire services pipework above ground shall be galvanised wrought iron victaulic mechanical
pipework system. All piping inground shall be poly pipework and fittings. All tees, bends and fittings
to the Blue Rhino pipework shall be ductile iron griptite complete with Rilsan Nylon 11
coating/lining. Gate valves shall be ductile iron norcast resilient sealing sluice valves complete with
Rilsan Nylon 11 coating/lining.
