RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Project Officer to the Planning & Environment Committee
Meeting dated 12 December 2017 providing an overview of activities during National Recycling
Week 2017.
REPORT
The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the activities that occurred during National
Recycling Week 2017.
1. Background
National Recycling Week is a well-established and highly regarded annual education and
behaviour change campaign by Planet Ark. The aim of the campaign is to increase the
environmental benefits, including greater tonnage and less contamination of kerbside, industrial
and community recycling programs. National Recycling Week provides residents with an
opportunity to move towards avoiding waste through changing daily habits to avoid, reduce,
reuse and recycle at home, at work and in the community. Noosa Council has supported the
program for the past two years and the program of events has grown in 2017.
2. Activities and Workshops
Activities organised for the week included information sessions, composting workshops, an
outdoor movie, tour of the Noosa Eumundi Landfill, a repair drop off morning with the Men’s
Shed, e-waste drop off day in partnership with Bunnings and a pre-loved women’s clothing sale
in partnership with Another Woman’s Closet. A new waste app for mobile devices “Recycle
Smart” was also introduced and promoted during the week.
