SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 FEBRUARY 2017
4. SYSTEMS, PROCESSES AND OTHER MATTERS
Fees / Memberships - An improved pricing policy was implemented in December which ensures:
the membership structure is simple for both customers and staff.
the gym becomes competitive in the local marketplace and in doing so, reverses the trend of
membership decline.
the NAC is consistent in its application of discounts.
WH&S - Re-engineering of the access lids to the underground balance tanks was completed in
October 2016. Whilst only a limited number of staff have access to the Plant Room, rectification of
this confined space risk was deemed a priority.
Asset Management - Completion of a formal pool plant and equipment condition assessment was
conducted by Roejen, a company who specialise in aquatic engineering and technical services.
They have provided a comprehensive report detailing recommended maintenance schedules and
asset renewal plans. This report will be the basis upon which the NAC’s maintenance and capital
works programs will be developed. This will ensure the viability of the centre well into the future.
Crèche - A required reduction to the crèche service identified in the NAC service review was
implemented in August. Whilst initially the cause of some disappointment for patrons, this quickly
subsided.
Gym – The gym has a current membership of 145 which is on par with the previous December
total of 136. $90k of new gym equipment was installed in late December and the programming of
new circuit classes, small group training and set staffed hours is now complete. This, combined
with a simplified fee structure, has provided a launching pad for an exciting new offering at the
NAC.
5. FUTURE DIRECTION
Emergent capital works funds for the replacement of lane ropes and blankets for the 50mtr pool
have recently been allocated. Delivery of these projects is expected by March 2017.
The current junior squad coaching contract expires on 30 June 2017 and as such will be retendered
prior to this date. The café lease has a 1-year option that could be activated to extend the contract
through to 30 June 2018 and management are currently considering this situation.
Community consultation and the subsequent development of plans for the Sunshine Beach Skate
Park upgrade is nearing completion with works timetabled to begin in June 2017. This project
targeted at the youth of the region is creating quite a ‘buzz’ around the facility and is eagerly
anticipated by users.
