SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 FEBRUARY 2017
The remaining revenue streams were collectively $23,438 ahead of budget. Retail performed
strongly and finished the period $7,127 or 8.64% ahead of revenue budget with a gross profit of
$41,630 (gross profit margin of 46.47%). The group fitness program also performed strongly,
finishing $13,020 or 26.94% ahead of revenue budget. Group fitness program attendance was up
1,553 or 29.7% on the same period last year.
The $30,219 expenditure variance is entirely due to two factors, being:
Water charges over budget by $24,946 due to tariff charge changes. This issue cannot be
controlled by the NAC and was flagged early in the year. The water budgets are due to be
revised accordingly in BR3.
Depreciation expenses are currently over budget by $10,329 due to asset revaluations. Again
this issue is out of the control of the NAC and budgets will be amended in BR3.
Excluding the above items, the remaining expenditure accounts are actually under budget by
$4,628.
2. CUSTOMERS
The NAC recorded 121,706 attendances for the half-year. This is an increase of 8,771 or 7.77%
from the figure 112,935 for the 2015/16 year. It should be noted that the previous year was
impacted by the temporary closure of the 25mtr pool for maintenance in July.
The half-yearly cost per visit, exclusive of depreciation and internal charges, is $0.74. Inclusive of
all costs this figure increases to $3.36.

New operating hours effective from October have proved successful and have been met with
strong approval from users.
The NAC continues to have limited capacity during most weekday afternoons. While lanes are
open to the public, these are generally limited to one or two during the peak times of 3.30pm –
6pm.
3. STAFFING
The NAC continues to have a large percentage of casual staff and will remain at current staffing
levels until the completion of Term 1 when they will drop substantially as winter sports begin.
Recruitment of two full time positions was approved as part of the NAC Service Review and has
been completed with both positions filled in August 2016. The successful candidates have settled
into their new roles and have quickly become much-valued members of the NAC’s core team.
