PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 14 OCTOBER 2014
EDV PROPOSAL FOR A BOUNDARY CHANGE
EVIDENCE OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT
In 2006, the level of community support for a boundary change was 80.5% of all
residents. At that time 14% of residents were opposed and 12.5% were
undecided or indifferent’?. This finding was replicated in the recent community
survey when residents were asked "What are your views about Eumundi,
Doonan, Verrierdale and Weyba Downs areas joining up with the Noosa Shire
Council? Figure Four shows the percentage answering each option.

The results show that 80% of respondents are in favour of a change and 13%
are against. Seven percent were undecided. That this survey results are so
similar to that from nine years previously was encouraging and provided the
impetus to further engage with the community.”
The survey data also shows that residents hold quite strong views on this
subject with the extreme ends of the spectrum (i.e. strongly in favour or
strongly against) having higher percentages than the more moderate statements
(i.e. in favour or against).
Following the survey data being published and ongoing consultations with the
community, it appears that there remains a significant level of support for
change, as well as a number who remain strongly opposed.
EDV are currently finalising their consultation process with the community and
will then undertake a definitive process to confirm (or otherwise) the initial
survey results and will present this to the Council in October for comment prior
to finalising their submission to the Minister.
11 A suburb by suburb breakdown of the 2005 door knock results showed that the highest level of support
came from Doonan (82.5%), followed by Eumundi (81%), Weyba Downs (78%) and Verrierdale (75%)
12 Tt should be noted that 78% of respondents were not EDV members, indicating a that the survey had been
completed by a broad cross section of our community
