3.4     Co-location Opportunities
The area of Cooran did not offer any feasible co-location opportunities. Figure 3.4 below
illustrates the location of existing telecommunication facilities in the wider area. As shown, the
closest telecommunication facility is located approximately 2.7 km south-east of Candidate C
(Prime) in the suburb of Federal. This facility is outside of the search area for Cooran and would
not provide reliable coverage for those residing in the township.

3.5     Prime Site Selection Reasons
Considering the factors identified above, Candidate C was ranked as the preferred location for the
facility as the site is able to meet NBN Co coverage objectives for Cooran, whilst maximising
separation and screening to nearby dwellings. In summary, the site is considered to be the best
option out of the three candidates assessed because:
    •   The proposed facility has been appropriately sited away from the nearby townships of
        Cooran and Pomona, and located as far away from residential dwellings as possible
        without compromising the service coverage to users in the locality;
    •   The location is sited near to an existing easement designated and used for HV power
        stanchions, thereby co-siting the facility with similar infrastructure;
    •   The location is separated from the main residential areas and transport routes;
    •   The location is accessible to power and access, and provides the required line of sight to
        other planned sites in the NBN wireless network;
    •   The location provides an adequate separation distance from environmentally sensitive
        locations (ie. Approximately 120 m from the MSES Wetland (riverine) mapped area; and
        approximately 20 m from the MSES Wildlife habitat mapped area);
