EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The TransLink Bus Route 628 that travels between Noosa Parklands and Noosa Junction has
recently been the subject of safety concerns with residents who primarily live along Creek Road.
The bus service is under the management of TransLink who contracts the service to Sunbus and
operates on Noosa Council controlled roads.

The residents specific safety concerns have been articulated as inadequate road width, alleged
speeding and dangerous driving by Sunbus drivers. In April 2014, TransLink commissioned an
independent road safety audit of Creek Road, Swan Street and Wylah Street, Noosaville. The
audit was undertaken by a qualified road safety auditor and concentrated on the suitability of
operating a bus route along these roads.

The audit findings have identified that there are no road safety impediments to the operation of
buses along Creek Road and adjoining streets however it suggests some high and medium
priority improvements which would further improve the safety at some intersections. These
improvements will be at Council’s cost. Other low priority improvements recommended involve
more signage and the provision of a footpath on one or both sides of Creek Road as warrented
by demand.

RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Team Leader, Transport Infrastructure Management to the
Infrastructure & Services Committee Meeting dated 17 June 2014 and undertake the suggested
high priority improvements as detailed in Table 3.1 of the Matrix Traffic Consulting Audit Report
as set out in Attachment 1 of the report by the Team Leader, Transport Infrastructure
Management.
