INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 17 JUNE 2014
2. Highlighted Projects
Two projects have been identified as highlighted projects for this report and they are the Noosa
Heads Lions Park Wash down area and the Noosa Waters revetment walls rehabilitation. The
purpose of highlighting projects is to provide information on these projects in more detail than
that provided in the attached spreadsheet and acknowledge the work being undertaken.
Noosa Lions Park Wash Down Area
The new 6 metre x 4 metre concrete wash down area included the replacement and upgrade of a
stainless steel shower, adjacent handrails and easy to maintain drainage system. The facility is a
multi-use area designed not only as a shower facility but to wash down all types of water craft
from nipper boards, kayaks through to 6 metre long paddle skis and stand up paddle boards.
The project was built well under the original $30,000 budget with an estimated saving of
$14,000. Feedback received already from one of the user groups was very positive and thankful
of the works undertaken.
BEFORE AFTER
Noosa Waters revetment walls rehabilitation and scour protection
The Noosa Waters revetment walls rehabilitation and scour protection is the largest project in
both scale and funding that is being delivered in the 2013/14 capital works program. The project
consists of approximately 11 kilometres of canal bed rehabilitation and the placement of rock
scour protection. There are approximately 500 properties with water frontage within the Noosa
Waters canal system. The project is being delivered by a local contractor - Noosa Jetty Builders.
The table below identifies the current progress of the Noosa Waters remediation and scour
protection works undertaken by the contractor. The table identifies that the worst condition areas
(shaded red) have been completed and approximately a third of the remainder of stage 2 is
nearing completion.
The contractor on average places a combined 300 cubic metres of aggregate and armour rock
per week to the profiles to meet the completion target.
