INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 17 JUNE 2014
2. Review the Sunshine Coast Local Area Pest Management Plan as the basis for a new
Noosa Local Government Area Pest Management Plan
Using the Sunshine Coast Local Government Area Pest Management Plan as a reference
document, Noosa Council would establish a working group for the development of a Noosa
Local Area Pest Management Plan 2014-2018. The process for Option 2 is as follows:
A. Representatives would be invited from the following stakeholder groups to provide input
into the draft Noosa PMP:
• AgForce Cooloola
• Burnett Mary Regional Group
• Conservation Volunteers Australia
• Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
• Department of Environment & Heritage Protection
• Department of National Parks, Sports & Racing
• Department of Transport & Main Roads
• Gympie Regional Council
• Noosa Residents and Ratepayers Association
• Plantation Forestry Queensland
• Noosa & District Landcare
• Noosa Integrated Catchment Association
• Noosa Parks Association
• SEQ Catchments
• SEQ Water
• Sunshine Coast Council
• Sunshine Coast Nursery and Garden Industry
• Wildlife Preservation Society (Sunshine Coast)
Council’s Environment Officer, Manager Environmental Health and Pest Plant and Pest
Animal Officers would attend stakeholder meetings.
B. The Draft PMP would be presented to Council for endorsement for the purposes of
public consultation.
C. Council undertakes a public consultation period of not less than 28 days.
D. The working group reviews public comments.
E. The finalised version is presented to Council for endorsement.
F. The Draft PMP is provided to Biosecurity Queensland for their consideration and
approval by the Minister.
G. The Draft PMP is considered by Council for final endorsement.
The advantage of Option 2 is that most of the information concerning pest management in
the Noosa area has already been gathered through the development of the Sunshine
Coast PMP, and drafting a Noosa PMP is not an onerous process. Secondly, the Noosa
PMP would be a four year plan and a Biosecurity Plan would not need to be developed
until 2018.
