RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Project Manager and Project Officer Transport Innovation to
the Services and Organisation Committee Meeting dated 7 July 2020 regarding Go Noosa –
Christmas 2019-2020 and note that a further report will be brought to Council on recommendations
for managing peak period traffic for the remainder of 2020 and the 2020/21 Christmas Holidays.
REPORT
In alignment with the Noosa Transport Strategy and the Noosa Design Principles, the Go Noosa
Program is a branded group of initiatives designed to manage peak period traffic whilst maintaining
the Noosa look and feel with a focus on a providing a positive experience for residents and visitors
alike.
Go Noosa initiatives were first introduced in the Christmas holidays of 2018/2019 and have been
successively used during Easter Holidays of 2019 and the previous 2019/2020 Christmas holidays.
The Easter 2020 traffic management plan was cancelled due to COVID-19.
This report provides an evaluation of the Go Noosa initiatives implemented over the 2019/20
Christmas school holidays and makes comparison to the previous 2018/2019 results.
Staff will provide Council with another report in due course looking at recommendations for
managing peak traffic periods for the remainder of 2020 as well as the 2020/21 Christmas period.
In the post Covid-19 environment, the nature of our traffic periods for tourism may be changing
(more day trippers/no overseas visitors) and that requires a re-look at our current approach.
Key insights into the outcome of Go Noosa program during 2019/2020 Christmas holidays include:
Continued uptake of public transport
The Noosa style loop bus was well patronised for an introductory service
Very high levels of customer satisfaction
Higher number of vehicles entered the Hastings Street area with no increase in travel times
to previous year.
Higher number of pedestrians in Hastings Street area compared to previous years
Marketing through various forms was required to gain awareness however; marketing reach
still needs to be improved.
