EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Not applicable.
RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Manager Waste and Environmental Health to the Services &
Organisation Committee Meeting dated 9 July 2019 and include in the Schedule of Fees and
Charges for 2019/20 the following additional waste disposal charges:
A. Clean concrete and brick for recycling less than 500Kg – not mixed with other waste types -
$15 (including GST); and
B. Disposal of residual concrete and wash water from concrete trucks - $10 (including GST).
REPORT
This purpose of this report is to include two additional charges in the 2019/20 Schedule of Fees
and Charges for disposal of concrete waste at the Eumundi Road landfill.
1. Background
The cost of concrete disposal in 2019/20 will rise from $19 per tonne to $35 per tonne to offset
the increasing costs of processing that material. When the new 2019/20 landfill disposal charges
were being uploaded in the weighbridge software system it was identified that there was a fixed
charge for washing out concrete trucks and disposal of small loads of concrete of less than
500Kg ($7.50) however this had been accidentally overlooked for review in the 2019/20 charges.
The absence of a set charge for less than 500Kg would mean that a pro rata charge must be
imposed on smaller loads, requiring vehicles to access the weighbridge a second time to tare off,
to calculate the pro rata tonnage fee for payment. This will impose additional traffic on the
weighbridge in addition to the increased weighbridge traffic caused by the Waste Levy.
The inclusion of the set charge for these smaller loads will remove the need to access the
weighbridge a second time, improving traffic flow.
