INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 3 MARCH 2015
Retail Operations continue to perform very well with the net result $11,707 in front of predictions.
The biggest improvement has been seen in purchasing, with actual Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)
year to date approximately $10,000 under the budgeted amount of $48,014. The introduction of a
popular new product line of Speedo has been well received and provides lower COGS
percentage. Staff have also focused on having less stock on hand which equates to much
improved expense levels.
2. Customers
The NAC has seen 121,706 attendances for the half year. Quarter 2 attendance equate to
79,019 compared to 74,344 in the same period 2013/14. This increase of 4,675 visits is
predominately an increase in program operations most notably the Swim Squad, Gym and Learn
to Swim areas.

The NAC has limited capacity during most weekday afternoons. While lanes are open to the
public, these are generally limited to one or two during the peak times of 3.30pm – 6pm.
3. Staffing
Staff numbers will remain at current levels until the completion of School Term 1 when they will
drop substantially as patrons move onto winter pastimes and maintenance of the 25 metre pool is
undertaken.
As part of the development of the 2015/16 budget, management will assess the current mix of
casual and permanent staff within the existing NAC structure, particularly where there are long
term casuals. Consideration will be given to the feasibility of converting a small number of key
positions from casual to permanent, where a business need can be identified.
4. Systems & Processes
The automatic payment system for the Learn to Swim program is now in its fourth month.
Unfortunately, systems errors resulted in a number of incorrect amounts being debited during the
December payment run. All affected customers were notified and the system error has been
rectified through the software vendor.
Night swim squads have been introduced on a Tuesday and Thursday in an effort to alleviate
some pressure on the availability of water space during the daytime.
