INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 23 JUNE 2015

Internal Drainage

The internal drainage construction is not industrial grade or suitable to the facility. The current
drainage grates and pits are failing and are now presenting sharp edges and there are sections
that have collapsed (refer to photo below).

The grates around the outside of the water spray area are of a substandard material.

Summary

Council staff have identified major deficiencies in product selection, design and construction
techniques when the splash park was initially constructed. This resulted in a shorter than
expected period of time for this facility to be renewed. The proposed renewal works will consider
these previous failings and look at more robust materials that will maximise the life of the facility.
This approach will include industrial grade drainage, a single pour of softfall matting – to
eliminate joint failures and the selection of a suitable central spray toy that will be robust and fit
for purpose.

It is proposed that the renewal costs will total $120,000. This will include:

Supply & Install Softfall $60,000
Supply & Install drainag $ 9,500
Supply & install central spray toy $45,000
Salaries (internal) $ 5,500
Contingencies $ 10,000
                                       Total $130,000

It is recommended that the funding of the renewal works for the Tewantin Spray park will be
allocated from the current 2014/2015 “emergent works – all infrastructure” allocation which has a
current budget of $1,003,000.

Previous Council Consideration

The capital works program has previously been distributed to Councillors (document titled
“Capital Works Program 2014/2015”).
