3.0 SITE FAUNA MANAGEMENT

3.1 INTRODUCTION

Management for significant and common fauna across the site is addressed at the design,
construction and operational stage of the development. Specific management measures
(ie. those specified in the approval conditions and other standard best practice) are
discussed in further detail while the implementation of these measures in each stage and in
the appropriate management plans, is discussed in Section 4.0. These management
measures relate to the following areas:

*® areas subject to the Ecological Restoration Plan - including private open space for
conservation and waterways protection, park, environmental park, public esplanade and
road reserves - bushland; and

e areas subject to the Landscape Master Plan, including the development areas (referred
to as building envelopes in Figure 5) and road reserves - landscaped.

As previously stated, fauna management objectives are to

i) provide suitable sustainable habitat and linkages for all fauna adjacent to and
integrated with the development; and
ii) protect and manage fauna prior to and during clearing and construction.

3.2 PROVISION OF HABITAT AND LINKAGES
3.2.1 General Fauna Habitat

The overall philosophy for recreating sustainable and viable fauna habitat is to
restore/connect a number of vegetation communities across the site. The envisaged site
fauna habitats (or vegetation communities) are illustrated in Figure 6, described in the
Ecological Restoration Plan and include:

e Open eucalypt/cypress/banksia forest (higher slopes) with associated littoral rainforest
(on lower slopes);

e Open eucalypt/cypress/banksia forest with heath understorey;

e Swamp mahogany open forest;

e Paperbark open forest (forest red gum in parts);

e Heath-fern wetland;

e Artificial wetland; and

e Marine (saltmarsh and mangroves).

Plantings throughout the site ie. in the landscaping and restoration activities, will include
the use of plant species that provide habitat for a range of local common species (examples
are provided in Annexure 2).
