EMP – CONSTRUCTION PHASE 4-12

Strategy: Prevent introduction of new weed species or proliferation of pests as a
                       result of construction works.
as weed, pest and disease free by the supplier.
       8. All mulch produced on site by mulching cleared vegetation and trees shall specifically exclude
material from weed species. The wood of umbrella trees may be mulched but it is to be ensured
that no seeds are included. Cleared vegetation which contains weeds (including umbrella tree
seeds) is to be disposed of at an approved Council facility.
       9. Residual herbicides are not to be used unless authorised by Council.
       10. Areas to be landscaped or revegetated are to be completed under strict supervision to avoid
unnecessary soil disturbance in accordance with Landscape Master Plan.
       11. Management Actions for environmental weed management within the POSCWP area are
contained within the Ecological Restoration Plan. This is to be used as the basis for weed control
           along the pathway
       12. Pest animal control measures, where necessary would be completed using suitable and
appropriate strategies as employed elsewhere within the Shire.
       13. The SEO shall ensure mosquito populations do not significantly increase as a result of
           construction activities by:
              • Ensuring that significant ponds are not formed during the bulk earthworks stage of the
development which may provide a location for mosquitos to breed.
              • Maintaining good site keeping practices which limits the number of areas where water may
pond and provide a location for mosquitoes to breed, such as open drums, on roofs of site
                     offices, in machinery etc.
        14. The SEO shall monitor daily for the presence of mosquitoes in any sedimentation ponds around
the site (if there are any semi-permanent ones). If mosquitoes are present then a mosquito
control agent, such as BTI or Methoprene shall be applied (with prior approval of Council).
        15. Any machinery previously used in Fire Ant Control areas (as indicated by the QDPI) is to be
checked for their possible presence prior to entering the site. Such machinery is to be certified as
fire ant free prior to entry to the site and comply with the washdown requirements described
            above.

Performance Requirement: No new weed or pest species. All weeds previously occurring in RHD
area to be subjected to control measures indicated above. No new habitat for pest species (including
       mosquitoes and cane toads).

Monitoring: Monthly site inspection of construction areas concentrating on edges of POSCWP and
RF Thompson Environmental Park and Park area.

Construction machinery certificates and origin of earthmoving machinery checked prior to entering
       site by SEO.

Reporting: Site Environmental Officer to report on weed species within the construction site.
Records to be maintained on any declared plants found on machinery, vehicles and equipment, and of
the source of materials (fill, soil, mulches, seed products, etc). Certificates to be available for nursery
