12. Tree limbs (of trees that are to be retained) that are likely to be in the way of earthworks
are to be pruned by the arborist prior to construction activity commencing on the advice of
and direction of the Wildlife Ecologist.
13. Tree roots (of trees that are to be retained) that are likely to interfere with machinery are to
be cut the arborist and the remaining roots treated with a suitable fungicide.
14. Weed control measures prior to clearing are to be implemented in accordance with
Element C.4 of the EMP’s and the Ecological Restoration Plan for the POSCWP areas
(see Annexure 3 in that document). Prior to commencement of clearing, weed species are
to be identified by the Wildlife Ecologist.
15. All weeds within the construction area are to be treated and/or removed from the property
prior to clearing.
Clearing Activities
16. Clearing of other non-habitat vegetation within the development area will be undertaken in
strict accordance with this “vegetation clearing and retention strategy”
17. The Wildlife Ecologist, SEO and Clearing Contractor are to make a final check of areas
for clearing immediately prior to commencement.
18. The Principal Contractor/ SEO is to ensure that staff involved in the clearing program
have undertaken the Site Induction Program and followed the Site Management Rules as
described in the Environmental Management Plans.
19. The SEO is to be contacted during the construction phase should access to the Habitat
Protection areas by otherwise unauthorised personnel be necessary.
20. No machinery will be permitted to access Habitat Protection areas unless for approved
infrastructure development.
21. No burning of vegetation or burning and burying of rubbish/waste will be permitted.
22. Stabilization of cleared areas is to be undertaken in accordance with Element C.5 of the
Environmental Management Plans.
23. Clearing will proceed in a staged approach with the initial removal of smaller non-habitat
trees followed by the supervised (wildlife ecologist or spottercatcher) removal of larger
habitat trees.
24. Prior to clearing works the area proposed for daily clearing will be surveyed to identify
koalas in the area. No clearing will occur in the immediate vicinity of the koala.
25. The Fauna Management Plan identifies procedures to be employed for the protection of
fauna during the clearing program. In the event that a Koala is identified in any tree
marked for removal, habitat or otherwise, that tree is not to be removed until the Koala has
dispersed from the tree. The tree should be left overnight to enable the Koala to move
away. The tree is only to be removed following its inspection by the Wildlife Ecologist to
ensure that the Koala has dispersed and that the removal of the tree poses no direct threat
to the health or survival of the Koala.
26. Immediately prior to felling of the identified habitat trees, the Wildlife Ecologist will be
present to inspect the trees and organize to relocate remaining fauna to a suitable location
