ORDINARY MEETING AGENDA 16 JUNE 2022
Given this we ask for this condition to be removed.
Officer response
The protection of covenant J from intrusion by people and domestic animals is important to protect
the ecological purpose of the covenant area. In this regard the requirement for fencing should be
maintained however it is acknowledged that greater flexibility can be provided regarding how this is
to be achieved.
Fencing to the southern perimeter of the Environmental Management and Conservation Zone has
been recommended to protect the environmental values and connectivity this area provides for
fauna. The connectivity being from Environmental Management and Conservation Zone on the
southern side of Hofmann Drive and the covenant area to the east of the site. This is detailed in the
following image.
Figure 1: Connectivity provided by the Environmental Management and Conservation Zone (Green)
To ensure that the fencing to the covenant J and Environmental Management and Conservation
Zone do not block this connectivity it is recommended that the fencing be wildlife friendly. The
applicant has advised that the off leash dog area will be fenced. It is therefore recommended that
the condition be amended to read as follows:
56. A permanent fence must be constructed:
a. Along the length of the boundary of approved Lot 17 adjacent to Covenant J, terminating
at the southern end of the mapped Environmental Management and Conservation Zone,
and
b. Along the full extent of the southern edge of the Environmental Management and
Conservation Zone, with the exception of the 36 metre length of the swale where the
fence is to be located on the northern side of the swale.
c. To the perimeter of the off-leash dog area.
