TRAFFIC NOISE

Measured Noise Levels

For details of the measurement equipment, equipment settings, calibration, monitoring location and
atmospheric conditions, refer Appendix A. Appendix B contains all of the detailed results of the noise
level measurements.

From Appendix B, the following noise levels should be noted for monitoring location A (microphone
elevated 1.6 metres):

Wednesday 2 June:
 LA10,18h = 58.8 dB(A)
 LA90,8h (10 pm to 6 am) = 29.1 dB(A)
 LA90,18h (6 am to midnight) = 43.6 dB(A)

Thursday 3 June:
 LA10,18h = 60.2 dB(A)
 LA90,8h (10 pm to 6 am) = 33.0 dB(A)
 LA90,18h (6 am to midnight) = 45.8 dB(A)

Average:
 LA10,18h = 59.5 dB(A)
 LA90,8h (10 pm to 6 am) = 31.1 dB(A)
 LA90,18h (6 am to midnight) = 44.7 dB(A)

All of the above noise levels were free field with the microphone elevated 1.6 metres, at Monitoring
Location A, set back approximately 23 metres from the centre of Elm Street. The dominant ambient
noise source was traffic on Elm Street. Refer Figure 1 for details of Monitoring Location A.

Calculated Traffic Noise Levels

In accordance with CORTN88 and DTMR, current traffic noise levels (2021) for Elm Street have been
calculated.

From CORTN88, Table 2 details the calculated current (2021) traffic noise levels from Elm Street to
Monitoring Location A, with the receptor elevated 1.6 metres above the ground (same location as the
microphone). In accordance with DTMR traffic data the AADT number of vehicles on Elm Street for
2019 is 9591 vpd with 5.51% heavy vehicles at 60 kph. This is based on DTMR traffic data for Elm
Street at site 21130, which is the closest traffic data site to the monitoring location.
