AMBIENT NOISE LEVELS

Table 7 details the range and average ambient noise levels at Monitoring Location A with the
microphone elevated 1.6 metres above ground level.

For details of measurement equipment, equipment settings and monitoring location for the 4-day period
refer Appendix A, whilst Appendix B details all of the results of the ambient noise level measurements.

With respect to noise the following should be noted:

          daytime:           0700 to 1800 hours;
          evening:           1800 to 2200 hours;
          night-time:        2200 to 0700 hours;
     ‘A’ weighted: adjustment made by the sound level meter to the measured noise to
                              correspond to the response of the human ear. This adjustment is
                              standardised by international noise standards;
     LAeq,T: the equivalent continuous (or approximately the ‘average’) ‘A’ weighted sound
                              pressure level for the measurement period ‘T’;
     LA1,T: the ‘A’ weighted sound pressure level exceeded for 1% of the measurement
                              period ‘T’;
     LA10,T: the ‘A’ weighted sound pressure level exceeded for 10% of the measurement
                              period ‘T’, which is an approximation of the ‘average of the maximum noise
                              levels’;
     LA90,T: the ‘A’ weighted sound pressure level exceeded for 90% of the measurement
                              period ‘T’, which is an approximation of the ‘average of the minimum noise
                              levels’, which is also known as the ‘background’ noise level.

    It should be noted that there were no significant periods of rainfall or high wind during the ambient
    noise assessment and, therefore, there was no need to exclude any of the data from the average.
