SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 12 FEBRUARY 2019
2.1 Free Holiday Buses
Consistent with the Christmas trials, the following five Noosa-specific TransLink services are
recommended for inclusion in the Go Noosa – Easter peak period traffic management trials from
the 6 to 28 April:
Route 626 – Tewantin to Sunrise Beach via Noosa Heads
Route 627 – Tewantin to Sunshine Beach via Noosa Heads
Route 628 – Noosa Parklands to Noosa Junction, via Noosa Civic
Route 629 – Tewantin to Noosa Junction via Noosa Civic
Route 632 – Noosa to Cooran via Cooroy and Pomona
In order to offer a free service to residents between Peregian Beach and Noosa Heads, the
following additional bus service is again recommended:
064 – Peregian Beach to Noosa Heads shuttle bus from 8am to 6pm
The bus services 620, 623, and 630 travel outside of the Noosa Shire and the existing TransLink
ticketing system is unable to accommodate free travel on these services. Council is aware that
this does cause some confusion, however we aim to mitigate this with improved signage at bus
stops.
2.3 Information management system
Consistent with the Christmas trials it is proposed to provide real-time car parking availability
information for residents and visitors wishing to enter the Noosa Heads area by installing high
resolution video variable message signs (VMS) at the following locations:
Walter Hay Drive near Eenie Creek bridge
Eenie Creek Road near the Noosa Civic
David Low Way near Peregian Digital Hub
Cooroy-Noosa road near Butler Street roundabout, Tewantin
The VMS signs would be in place from 1 April to 29 April 2019. In addition to providing
information on car parking availability, the VMS would promote alternate travel options including
free buses, park & ride, scooters and bicycles.
2.4 Go Noosa App
As an adjunct to the information management system it is proposed to further refine and develop
the Go Noosa App (www.gonoosaapp.com.au) and make it available for free on App store and
Google Play.
The Go Noosa App contains the following information with the aim of encouraging park and ride
and other more sustainable transport options;
car parking availability in the Hastings Street precinct,
traffic congestion
bus routes and timetable information
scooter parking
bicycle paths and bicycle parking
walking tracks.
It is envisaged that with further development the Go Noosa App will form a major source of travel
information to residents and visitors to Noosa.
2.5 Traffic Control
It is proposed to utilise traffic control between the 6 – 28 April from 9am – 4pm on weekends and
public holidays and 10am - 2pm on weekdays. The use and number of traffic controllers will be
based on anticipated demand and weather dependent.
As per the Christmas trials, the purpose of traffic control would be to:
