SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 12 FEBRUARY 2019
give priority to buses and pedestrians
keep traffic moving so buses are not sitting in queues
improve accessibility to the Noosa Heads area
minimise traffic disruptions in the Noosa Heads area.
In order to meet required safety standards, traffic controllers are required to wear high visibility
long sleeve shirts and pants. However, in order to create a “holiday” atmosphere traffic
controllers would be allowed to wear broad brimmed tropical hats, flower leis and hand out
Easter eggs.
2.6 Wayfinding
To further assist pedestrians and bus passengers it is proposed to install temporary wayfinding
signage in and around Noosa Heads and Noosa Junction as well as at bus stops. It is also
proposed to have a Sunbus passenger assistant to help passengers with wayfinding on week-
ends and public holidays.
The Christmas trials used temporary corflute signs and unfortunately a number were damaged or
removed. It is proposed that some signs be constructed of aluminium to deter wilful damage and
to ensure the messages are not missed. All signs will be removed at the end of the trials.
2.7 Parallel parking – Hastings Street & Noosa Parade
In order to allow traffic to flow more freely to the Woods car parking areas it is proposed to
temporarily restrict 8 parallel car parks on the southern side of Hastings Street for the period 6
April to 28 April 2019.
Observations have shown that parallel parking in Hastings Street during previous peak periods
has exacerbated traffic congestion. Initial observations from the Christmas trials identified traffic
was able to flow more freely along Hastings Street to the Woods when the parallel car parks
were restricted.
To provide temporary use for these car park spaces, it is proposed to increase footpath space for
4 bays, allocate temporary scooter parking for 3 bays and bicycle parking for 1 bay from 6 – 28
April. Note installation and removal of signage changes will occur either side of these dates.
Based on initial customer feedback it is proposed to increase the communication of alternative
boat trailer parking storage locations in lieu of trailers being parked on Noosa Parade from
Munna Point Bridge to the Sofitel Bridge.
Accommodation and retailers along Noosa Parade will be advised to encourage guests and
customers to utilise local boat trailer storage facilities. The removal of boat trailers on Noosa
Parade would free up car parking spaces allowing people to park and walk or catch a bus into
Hastings Street.
2.8 Noosa Heads Lions Park – Car Park
It is proposed that the Noosa Heads Lions Park be used as a paid car park between 13 – 28 April
weather dependent and subject to volunteer availability.
These dates have been selected based on the liaison with Tewantin-Noosa Lions Club and a
review of the holiday dates.
The paid parking proposal details are:
Vehicles are charged a flat rate of $20 (incl. GST) per day or part thereof;
The Tewantin-Noosa Lions Club would receive 40% of the parking fees with the remaining
revenue coming to Council;
The Tewantin-Noosa Lions Club manages the operation of the car park from 9.00am to
6.00pm daily; and
In wet weather the park would not be opened to vehicles.
