Finance
The Department has delivered a strong first half of the 2018/19 year, with total revenue ahead of
budget by $452k (5.2% up) and expenditure $329k below budget (1.6% down). The net position
of the Department sits at a positive variance to budget of $781k.
Solid revenue performance has been seen across most teams, with the most notable positive
variances being revenue from the sale of recyclables up by $133k and regulatory fees and
charges up by $119k. Expenditure relating to employee costs and materials and services is
slightly under budget however this is spread evenly across the department.
Risks & Opportunities
The upcoming introduction of the state-wide waste levy has been delayed to 01 July 2019 which
has provided a more reasonable timeframe to implement this significant change.
Unitywater have agreed to accept negotiated an increased discharge volume for leachate from
the Noosa Landfill during wet weather events. This will greatly assist in mitigating the risk of
leachate potentially escaping into the adjacent environment and the associated negative
environmental outcomes.
Other risks and opportunities currently present within the Department sit within the normal
bounds of those regularly encountered and accepted by Council.
