PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 21 JULY 2015

This would see expanded trading hours for the large retailers and shopping centres across the
Sunshine Coast including Noosa. The current trading hours in Noosa are:-
Monday to Friday 8.00 am 9.00 pm
    Saturday 8.00 am 5:30 pm
Sunday (excluding Easter Sunday) 9.00 am 6.00 pm

    Labour Day and Christmas Day)
Notwithstanding the opening and closing times prescribed herein for 8. 00 am 6.00 pm
public holidays, the opening and closing times for
non-exempt shops on Easter Saturday : Easter Saturday

The Queensland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIQ) was consulted on the Application
and advised that the results of a recent survey of members revealed that while overall
businesses in South East Queensland generally supported the deregulation of shop trading
hours, the majority of small businesses opposed it. Considerations of small businesses included
the costs especially in increased wages with longer opening hours and the impact on exempt
businesses that have unrestricted trading hours under the Trading (Allowable Hours) Act 1990,
for example, bakeries and fruit shops.
Contact has also been made with Sara Fisher (President CCIQ Noosa), Danielle Taylor
(Chamber of Commerce Cooroy) and Daniel Massingham (Tourism Noosa) who believed the
proposed increase in trading hours was not needed or advantageous to small businesses in
Noosa.
