Mr Brett de Chastel
Chief Executive Officer
Noosa Shire Council
PO Box 41
Tewantin, OLD 4565
Dear Mr de Chastel,
Re: Trading Hours Application, South-East Queensland - Council's views requested
The National Retail Association Limited, Union of Employers (NRA), has made Application to the
Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (the Commission) under the Trading (Allowable Hours)
Act 1990 (the Act) to, as the NRA describes it, "... merge as many different (trading hours’) zones as
possible, within South-East Queensland, into a single, harmonised area with one set of rules, with
consistent allowable hours from Monday through to Saturday ...".
A copy of the Application (Matter No. TH/2014/23), together with a map of the current South-East
Queensland Trading Hours zone, is attached for your information.
NRA's Application is listed for a lengthy hearing before a Full Bench of the Commission in
September 2015. When considering NRA's Application, section 26(h) of the Act requires the
Commission to “have regard to ,.. the view of any local Governments in whose area the Order is
likely to have an impact."
Accordingly, given that your Council's area is likely to be impacted by any decision the Commission
might make in respect of NRA's Application, (i.e, to grant it or to refuse it or to grant it in part), the
views of Noosa Shire Council on the Application are requested by the Full Bench of the Commission
hearing the matter, in writing, by close of business on Friday 7 August 2015.
Such view should be forwarded to myself for distribution to the Full Bench as well as to all interested
bodies who have been granted leave to appear in the proceedings.
Yours faithfully,
C, R. Chadwick,
Deputy Industrial Registrar
2 June 2015.
