5.3 LABOUR FORCE DEMAND DRIVERS
This section of the report explores the structure of the labour force within the Noosa Civic catchment
area, the Sunshine Coast LGA and the wider SEQ region. This analysis has been undertaken to gain an
understanding of the variables that exist for each labour market.

5.4 PLACE OF WORK
The demand for core commercial office space is directly linked to the amount of white collar workers
within the Noosa Civic catchment area. This section provides an overview of the industry of employment
and occupation of the workforce and determines the proportion of white collar workers within the Noosa
Civic catchment area. Data has been sourced from the Place of Work data released by the ABS and
outlined in section 3.

As part of the Census of Population and Housing, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) collects
journey to work data. This data shows how people get to-and-from work (mode of transport) as well as
the location of their home and their workplace. This data provides insights into the employment
movements of residents of the Noosa Civic catchment area. Notably, it shows that a large proportion of
catchment residents work within the catchment (12,140 people or 45.5%). The other major work locations
for catchment area residents are Nambour-Pomona (25.1%) and Maroochy (14.9%) which represent the
higher order centres within the Sunshine Coast Council.

Of those residents working in the catchment area the major industries of employment are primarily non-
office based sectors - Retail Trade; Accommodation and Food Services; Health Care and Social
Assistance; Education and Training. This is similar for catchment residents working in Nambour-Pomona,
and Maroochy.
