5.5.1 TOURISM DEMAND TRENDS
The Sunshine Coast tourism market has trended like Queensland as a whole in recent times. As shown in
Table 5.9, the number of domestic overnight visitor nights has remained relatively stable, averaging
approximately 11.5 million visitors over the 15 year period. International visitor nights have experienced
growth of almost one million visitors since 2000.
Other key points to note from Table 5.9 are as follows:
The Noosa Shire typically accounts for a quarter to a third of total visitor nights on the Sunshine
Coast, which confirms the importance of Noosa to the Sunshine Coast tourism sector.
Since 2000, the Noosa Heads and Noosaville SA2, where Noosa Civic is located, has accounted for
an average 84% of total visitor nights in the Noosa Shire, and 24% of visitor nights on the Sunshine
Coast.
The abovementioned SA2 shares were both noticeably lower in 2014, with total visitor nights
decreasing to 2.7 million visitor nights in the year ending March 2014, down from 2.8 million and 3.3
million in 2013 and 2012 respectively.
