5.6 EMPLOYMENT ANALYSIS
This sub-section examines the employment profile of employed residents of the Noosa Civic trade area.
The purpose is to determine the proportion of the workforce who work outside the trade area.

As part of the Census of Population and Housing, the Australia Bureau of Statistics (ABS) collects journey
to work data. This data shows how people get to and from work (i.e. mode of transport) as well as the
location of their home and their workplace. The usual residence of workers is collected at an SA1 level.
The smallest geography for the place of work data is the Destinational Zone (DZ) level. The ABS defined
DZ boundaries nest into the Noosa Civic trade area with three exceptions. Thus the DZ catchment that
identifies the place of work differs slightly from the main trade area. The differences are listed below.

 Two DZ zones in the Nambour-Pomona area, which have been included in the main trade area
catchment for place of work, are not completely covered by the north west and south west secondary
                            sectors.

 One DZ zone in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland area, which the secondary south west sector
encroaches onto, is not included in the main trade area catchment for place of work.

 One DZ zone in the Gympie-Cooloola area which the secondary south west sector encroaches onto
is not included in the main trade area catchment for place of work.

An illustration of the DZ zones used as compared to the boundaries of the main trade area is provided
below in Map 5.5 overleaf.
