2. Planned Remediation Activity
The construction that took place in 2012 was part of a staged construction process designed to
reduce the quantity of dredging and nourishment required at this location. In the 5 years since
completion of the project, no dredging or sand nourishment was required. However, it is now
necessary to reinstate the dredging operation to return an adequate level of service to this area
while the longer term situation is assessed.
The next steps involve:
a. Undertaking a survey of the area to assess the volume of sand lost due to shoreline
erosion in early August.
b. Preparation of Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) permit
applications, this should allow permits by early September.
c. In conjunction with the permit process, call tenders for dredging and nourishment works at
this site under the canal operational budget.
d. Updating the Noosa River flood model with the latest conditions in this area to assess
possible solutions for remediation during the 2017/18 financial year.
e. During the 2017-/8 financial year, seek expert advice on the medium-term (2-10 years)
management plan for this area.
