SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 8 AUGUST 2017
3. STAFFING
The J staff also oversee BCC’s operations, therefore, this component of the report is combined
for both venues. Staffing levels are currently at 4.7 FTE which is considered extremely efficient
when compared to other similar venues.
Whilst the budget has been adapted to account for the ongoing growth in activity, there is still
pressure on staffing capacity.
4. SYSTEMS & PROCESSES AND OTHER MATTERS
Regular reviews and updating of operational systems and processes is ongoing and will continue
with ongoing reference to the service review and business plan.
The capital works project to increase theatre/auditorium seating capacity by 64 to total 402 seats
has recently been completed and received an overwhelmingly positive response. The upper foyer
mezzanine area is also proving popular as an additional larger meeting space and The J looks
forward to being able to increase programming in this area.
Some AV equipment ($30k worth) was upgraded via the capital works program and The J will
soon invest another $30k into AV equipment to ensure the venue is capable of keeping up with
technological advancements and meeting consumer expectations.
5. FUTURE DIRECTION
The J
The J will continue to operate as a multipurpose community venue that caters for a wide
range of events, users and activities. It is envisaged that the increase in activity will
continue at a steady rate, while we meet existing client expectations as a priority moving
forward.
The initial 10-year lease term with the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) was recently
renewed with a minor amendment of a 5-year term plus 5-year option.
Ongoing liaison with Noosa Community Radio to monitor and review their ability to meet
the lease requirements.
Further promotion of The J with a 402 seat theatre/auditorium and an additional meeting
space.
Further consideration of future capital works funding and review of The J’s technical
capacity over the next 3 to 5 years and provision of additional storage and increased
stage/greenroom area.
The J has been working hard to redevelop its website and to enhance its social media
presence. Both these projects form part of a suite of strategic marketing initiatives that are
currently under development and will soon be launched to help drive continued revenue
and customer growth.
BCC
Council representatives continue to work with the Noosa Gymnastic Club’s Project Control
Group on the expansion of the hall.
Ongoing liaison with Noosa Montessori School to monitor their development and
possible future expansion.
